More about Oldtimer’s Haze

Oldtimer's Haze by Ace Seeds is one of the few populations of original pure haze available on the market, preserved intact since a British grower donated it to the Spanish bank. This variety was developed in California in the 60s and 70s by crossing the best imported tropical sativas from Mexico, Colombia, South India and Thailand. On the verge of disappearing in the 80s with the introduction of Skunk and Indica strains into the breeding scene, Ace Seeds has kept its original genetic diversity intact, allowing you to find plants belonging to the mythical phenotype Purple Haze — almost extinct — and the best known Green Haze, as well as intermediate combinations. Its value to preservationists, collectors and breeders is incalculable.

Plant morphology. Oldtimer's Haze grows with the slender and elegant structure of extreme tropical sativas: tall, open, highly branched and with long, flexible branches that bend in the wind. Its leaves are very thin and pale in color, characteristic of pure Haze. It does not stop growing until well into mid-flowering., and can reach very considerable heights indoors if not controlled. It requires moving to 12/12 flowering very early and masterfully managing pruning and staking techniques. The flowering is 16 to 24 weeks depending on the cultivated phenotype.

Appearance of the flower. The buds of Oldtimer's Haze are airy, with long calyxes covered in a resin that will slowly form during its very long flowering period. The green phenotype has a sweeter and fruitier aroma; the purple phenotype smells more like licorice, red wine, and dark liquor. Both share that incensed, spicy and oriental wood background that defines the purest Haze. The effect is deeply cerebral: stimulating, clean, happy and without limit, without heaviness or physical effect — the effect that put Haze in the global cannabis pantheon.

Cultivation tips

  • What is the ideal climate to grow Oldtimer's Haze? Requires subtropical or tropical climate outdoors to mature correctly. In the Iberian Peninsula it can only be grown outdoors in warm coastal climates up to 37ºN (southern Spain, Canary Islands). Indoors it is the ideal habitat although it requires a lot of space and height control.
  • What training techniques are essential for Oldtimer's Haze? The repeated apical pruning, LST, SCROG and firm staking They are absolutely essential to handle it indoors. It is recommended to change to 12/12 as soon as the plants are between 15-30 cm to prevent them from reaching the ceiling. Without training, it is unmanageable in any grow tent.
  • What type of fertilization does Oldtimer's Haze need? Pure sativas generally require less fertilizer than modern hybrids. Moderate nitrogen is recommended during growth and a progressive increase in phosphorus and potassium during flowering, taking into account that flowering can last up to 6 months.
  • How should humidity management be with Oldtimer's Haze? Its open structure and airy buds give it a good moisture resistance compared to other sativas. However, given the duration of flowering, it is important to maintain good ventilation throughout the cycle. Outdoors, it prefers mild, dry autumns.
  • Is prior experience necessary to grow Oldtimer's Haze? If it is exclusively for very experienced growers with knowledge in the management of long-flowering tropical sativas. Mastering pruning, staking and photoperiod management techniques is essential to obtain satisfactory results. Patience is also an essential virtue with this variety.
